IAS Officer Mandeep K Bhandari Named New CBSE Board Chairperson
The Union government has appointed 2001-batch IAS officer Mandeep K Bhandari as the new chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education. Bhandari, an AGMUT-cadre officer, has been elevated to the rank of Additional Secretary to the Union government for the position.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which oversees secondary and senior secondary education across India, will now be headed by Mandeep K Bhandari, a senior bureaucrat with over two decades of administrative experience. Bhandari's appointment comes as part of a leadership transition at the apex body responsible for curriculum development and examination oversight for millions of students nationwide.
As a 2001-batch IAS officer cadred under the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) service, Bhandari brings substantial experience in educational administration and governance. His elevation to the rank of Additional Secretary underscores the seniority and responsibility attached to the CBSE chairperson position.
The post has been temporarily upgraded to accommodate Bhandari's rank, reflecting the government's intent to strengthen institutional leadership at the board. The CBSE, headquartered in New Delhi, conducts examinations for over 24,000 schools across India and abroad, making the chairperson role crucial for educational policy implementation.
