IAS Officer Suhas Claims Bronze at Asian Para Games in Badminton

Suhas Lalinakereyathiraj, a serving IAS officer and accomplished para badminton athlete, clinched a bronze medal at the Asian Para Games 2026 after a hard-fought semifinal match. Setiawan of Indonesia defeated Suhas in straight games with a scoreline of 23-21, 8-21, 21-15 in the men's singles SL4 category.

The Indian shuttler mounted a strong comeback in the second game after losing the opening set, demonstrating his characteristic fighting spirit. However, Setiawan proved too strong in the decisive third game, securing his place in the final and relegating Suhas to the bronze medal playoff.

Suhas, who balances his civil service responsibilities with elite-level para sports, has established himself as one of India's leading para badminton athletes. He is a two-time Paralympic medalist, having secured silver medals at both the Tokyo and Paris Paralympic Games, cementing his status among India's top para athletes.

The bronze medal represents another significant achievement for Suhas in international para sports competition and adds to India's medal tally at the ongoing Asian Para Games.
