The officer was involved in a traffic accident and subsequently left the scene on foot, according to court documents. He later presented an account to authorities stating that he had consumed only three beers following the collision.
However, investigations by traffic police revealed evidence suggesting the officer had consumed whisky prior to the accident. The discrepancy between his account and investigative findings led to formal charges being brought against him.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about drink-driving offences in Singapore. Under the Road Traffic Act, motorists found to have driven while under the influence of alcohol face significant penalties, including fines, licence suspension, and potential imprisonment depending on the severity of the offence.
The officer's employment status with ICA has not been disclosed. The matter is expected to proceed through the court system, where the evidence regarding the timeline and nature of alcohol consumption will be examined.
