ICC fines Jaiswal, Fernando 25% match fees for on-field confrontation
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka seamer Asitha Fernando have each been fined a quarter of their match fee and handed demerit points for an heated exchange during the second Test in Colombo.

The International Cricket Council on Monday penalised both players for their conduct on day one of the Test at the P. Sara Oval. The incident occurred after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal in the 17th over of India's first innings, when the opening batter walked towards the bowler and the two engaged in a verbal exchange.
The confrontation escalated when Fernando made a head movement towards Jaiswal, prompting the Indian player to lean in. The resulting head contact between the two players triggered the ICC's action.
Both Jaiswal and Fernando were found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits inappropriate physical contact with other players, match officials and related personnel. Each received one demerit point in addition to the financial penalty.
According to an ICC statement, both players admitted the offences and accepted the sanctions without requiring formal hearings. The match referee Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel proposed the penalties, which were accepted by the players involved.
