MALAYBALAY CITY — A well-known tree that adorned a national highway with vibrant yellow blooms each summer was brought down Monday afternoon during a severe weather event that swept through Bukidnon. The uprooting occurred as localized thunderstorms pounded the city with heavy rain and strong winds, prompting emergency response from the Malaybalay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) at approximately 2:55 p.m.
The tree had long served as a recognizable fixture along the highway corridor, drawing attention from motorists and residents during its flowering season. Its loss marks the removal of a natural landmark that had been part of the local landscape's character.
The incident highlights the region's vulnerability to severe weather events, which have become increasingly common during the rainy season. Authorities did not report any injuries or additional significant damage from the localized thunderstorm system that affected the area.
