Siddhesh Patil, an engineering student at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Matunga, was found unresponsive in his hostel accommodation at approximately 10:30 pm on Tuesday. The discovery prompted immediate action from hostel authorities and emergency services, though he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to initial reports, Patil had sent a message to a doctor earlier that day, raising questions about the circumstances leading to his death. The exact nature of his communication with the medical professional remains unclear, but authorities have registered the case for investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns about mental health support systems for engineering students in India's premier educational institutions. ICT, one of the country's leading chemical engineering colleges, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident or details about counselling services available to its students.
Police officials are conducting preliminary investigations to determine the exact cause of death. Post-mortem examination procedures are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the student's demise. The institute has been contacted for further details about support mechanisms and student welfare protocols.
