The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) has indicated that the IDBI Bank sale process will proceed swiftly following RBI approval of the successful bidder. The winning contender is expected to submit its technical documentation and regulatory credentials to the central bank for final clearance.
Once the RBI grants its approval, the buyer and the government will execute the share purchase agreement, a key milestone that would allow the transaction to be completed before the end of the current fiscal year ending March 31. The process underscores the government's commitment to expediting the long-pending divestment of the state-owned lender.
Addressing investor concerns, DIPAM Secretary Chawla affirmed that the interests of minority and retail shareholders would be fully safeguarded throughout the transaction. Following the signing of the share purchase agreement, the strategic buyer will be obligated to extend an open offer to minority shareholders as per regulatory requirements.
The IDBI Bank divestment represents one of the government's key privatization objectives, with the successful completion expected to provide clarity to stakeholders on the terms of the transaction and the future direction of the bank under new ownership.
