IESA pushes BRICS nations to collaborate on renewable energy targets

The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) has urged BRICS member nations to strengthen bilateral and multilateral collaboration on clean energy technologies, emphasizing that coordinated action on energy storage and mineral security is essential to meeting renewable energy goals. The appeal was made during a virtual summit organized by India's power ministry on Tuesday, which brought together representatives from Brazil, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and other BRICS members to discuss pathways for accelerating the clean energy transition.

IESA, which coordinated the technical discussions at the event, has identified three critical pillars for achieving renewable energy targets: development of advanced energy storage technologies, establishment of resilient domestic and regional supply chains, and securing timely access to critical minerals required for clean energy infrastructure. The alliance stressed that no single BRICS nation can independently achieve these objectives, underscoring the need for structured cooperation frameworks.

Following the summit, IESA submitted formal recommendations to the Indian government outlining specific areas for enhanced energy cooperation among BRICS nations. The recommendations are expected to inform India's policy approach to regional energy partnerships as the country positions itself as a leader in the clean energy transition within the emerging economies bloc.

India's commitment to renewable energy expansion is reflected in its substantial clean industrial investment pipeline, which has reached an estimated USD 433 billion. The figure underscores the scale of capital flows into clean technology infrastructure and positions India as a significant player in shaping BRICS energy cooperation frameworks.
