Ifugao mountain road reopens to 4WD traffic after soil collapse repairs
A critical mountain road in the Philippine Cordillera has resumed limited operations following emergency stabilization work on a collapsed section. The Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Ifugao province now permits four-wheel-drive vehicles after authorities addressed the geological failure.

The Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera Administrative Region confirmed Monday that the reopened section at kilometer marker 0359+800 in Hapao, Hungduan, Ifugao is now passable for high-clearance vehicles following an extended closure caused by soil instability.
The road segment had been rendered impassable after soil collapse compromised its structural integrity, cutting off access along the critical corridor connecting Banaue and Hungduan municipalities to neighboring Benguet province. The temporary closure impacted local communities and commercial traffic dependent on the route.
DPWH-CAR personnel have maintained a presence at the repair site to monitor conditions and conduct ongoing stabilization work. Officials are continuing assessment of the affected area to ensure sustained safety for vehicles using the thoroughfare. The reopening remains restricted to four-wheel-drive vehicles as additional reinforcement measures are implemented.
The agency has not specified a timeline for lifting restrictions to allow regular two-wheel-drive traffic. Authorities urged motorists to exercise caution in the area while remedial work continues.
