LAMUT, Ifugao — Municipal officials in Lamut have issued a comprehensive ban on the sale, distribution, retailing, and storage of gasoline and other petroleum products in improvised containers, commonly referred to as "bote-bote" in local communities.

The local government announced the prohibition through a public advisory released on social media, warning of the substantial risks posed by storing fuel in makeshift vessels. Officials cited fire hazards, explosion risks, and potential environmental damage as primary concerns driving the enforcement action.

The ban specifically targets traders and sari-sari store owners who have traditionally supplied fuel to residents in smaller quantities through bottles and other non-standard containers. The municipal government is urging these retailers to transition to approved storage and distribution methods that comply with safety standards.

The move reflects growing concern among local authorities over inadequate fuel storage practices in rural communities, where such informal distribution channels remain common. Officials emphasized that proper handling and storage of petroleum products are essential to protect public safety and prevent environmental contamination in the municipality.
