IGL hikes Delhi CNG price by Rs 3.89 per kg amid LNG surge

CNG rates in Delhi will increase to Rs 86.98 per kilogramme from August 29, marking a significant jump for consumers in the national capital region. The price hike of Rs 3.89 per kg reflects Indraprastha Gas Limited's response to soaring imported spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices in global markets.

The fuel price revision comes as supply concerns resurface around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments. Geopolitical tensions in the region have prompted traders and suppliers to reassess LNG availability and pricing, pushing spot prices upward.

IGL, which supplies CNG to vehicles and piped cooking gas to households across Delhi and adjoining areas, adjusts its retail prices periodically based on international crude oil and LNG price movements. The company cited the elevated cost of imported LNG as the primary driver of the current increase.

The price revision will impact thousands of commercial vehicles, auto-rickshaws, and private car owners who rely on CNG as a cleaner and more economical fuel alternative. Domestic cooking gas rates may also face upward pressure depending on IGL's subsequent tariff adjustments.
