IGX gets regulatory nod for LNG regasification capacity booking platform
India's gas exchange has received approval to launch a digital platform enabling liquefied natural gas terminal operators to list and auction spare regasification capacity. The initiative aims to enhance transparency and boost utilisation of existing infrastructure.

The Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) has secured regulatory clearance to establish a dedicated platform for booking regasification capacity at liquefied natural gas terminals across India. The digital marketplace will facilitate transactions between LNG terminal operators seeking to monetise underutilised infrastructure and buyers requiring additional regasification services.
Under the new framework, terminal operators can list their available regasification slots on the platform, creating a transparent, market-driven mechanism for capacity allocation. Buyers—including city gas distribution companies, power plants, and other industrial consumers—will gain access to real-time information on available capacity and pricing, enabling them to make informed procurement decisions.
The platform represents a significant step toward optimising India's LNG infrastructure utilisation. As the nation expands its gas-based economy and transitions toward cleaner fuels, efficient use of existing regasification facilities reduces the need for costly new infrastructure investments while ensuring supply reliability across consuming sectors.
The approval aligns with regulatory efforts to enhance transparency and competition in India's natural gas markets. By standardising capacity booking procedures and centralising transaction information, the platform is expected to improve price discovery and reduce transaction costs for all market participants.
