IIT-Bombay professor questioned in student death probe

Professor Suryanarayana Doolla of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay underwent extensive questioning by Mumbai police on Tuesday in connection with the death of student Sahil Wakode. The interrogation lasted approximately ten hours as investigators sought to establish details surrounding the incident.

During the questioning, Doolla denied all allegations levelled against him. However, the student's family has maintained serious accusations, alleging that the professor subjected Wakode to harassment and discrimination based on caste. These claims form a central aspect of the police investigation into the circumstances of the student's death.

The case has drawn significant attention given the involvement of one of India's premier engineering institutions. Police have been collecting statements and evidence from multiple sources as they work to establish a comprehensive timeline of events. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities indicating that further questioning of relevant parties may be necessary.

Neither IIT-Bombay nor the Mumbai Police Commissioner's office has issued official statements regarding the specifics of the case or the charges under consideration. The institution has traditionally maintained that it takes all complaints from students with utmost seriousness and cooperates fully with law enforcement agencies conducting investigations.
