IIT Dhanbad sees placement decline from previous year, only two land government jobs

The Indian Institute of Technology in Dhanbad has reported a contraction in its placement statistics this year, marking a decline from the previous year's performance. According to placement data released by the institution, the overall hiring numbers have dipped, presenting a more challenging employment landscape for the graduating cohort.

Course-wise salary packages reveal significant variations in compensation offered to students. Bachelor of Technology (BTech) graduates have secured an average package of Rs 18.02 lakh, while those pursuing the Double Major BTech programme have received offers averaging Rs 26.78 lakh. Multiple other specialized courses also saw placements with competitive remuneration packages.

However, the placement drive has not been universally successful. While most programmes recorded successful placements, several students from the graduating batch remain without job offers. Government sector placements proved particularly limited, with only two students securing positions in state-run organizations.

The placement outcomes reflect broader economic headwinds affecting recruitment across India's technology and engineering sectors. The contracting numbers at one of India's premier engineering institutes underscore the competitive employment environment facing fresh graduates this year.
