Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur has launched a streamlined pathway for doctoral research, inviting BTech graduates from centrally-funded technical institutions to pursue direct PhD admission without appearing for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

The initiative, aimed at aerospace engineering programmes commencing in 2026, is open to candidates maintaining a CGPA of 8.0 or higher during their undergraduate studies. The move aligns with IIT Jodhpur's strategy to attract high-calibre researchers and strengthen its doctoral pipeline in specialised engineering disciplines.

Direct PhD admission schemes have gained prominence across Indian premier institutions as a mechanism to identify and nurture exceptional talent early in their careers. By waiving the GATE requirement for merit-based candidates, IIT Jodhpur seeks to encourage accomplished undergraduate engineers to transition seamlessly into advanced research.

The aerospace engineering department has established the CGPA threshold as a quality assurance measure, ensuring that admitted doctoral candidates possess a strong foundational knowledge base. Interested BTech graduates from CFTIs are encouraged to review detailed eligibility criteria and application procedures on the institute's official website.

The 2026 admissions cycle represents part of broader efforts by IIT Jodhpur to enhance its postgraduate research capabilities and contribute to India's technological advancement through cutting-edge work in aerospace and related domains.
