Scientists at IIT Roorkee have developed a battery-free smart bandage that could transform wound care in resource-constrained settings. The innovation features a latticed design that allows air circulation to the wound while preventing fluid accumulation that can delay healing.
The bandage exhibits remarkable elasticity, capable of stretching to eight times its original length, making it adaptable to various wound sizes and locations on the body. According to preliminary findings, the technology has demonstrated significant efficacy in accelerating the healing process.
Laboratory testing and trials conducted on animal models showed the bandage reduced wound healing time by approximately 66 percent compared to standard dressings. The absence of battery requirements makes the technology particularly valuable for deployment in areas with limited access to power infrastructure.
