Iligan City mobilizes P3.35 million drought relief package

ILIGAN CITY — The city government has committed 3.35 million pesos toward an El Niño response initiative targeting drought-affected farmers and mitigation efforts, according to Teodosia Jaraba, acting head of the City Agriculturist's Office.

Of the total allocation, 2.35 million pesos will be distributed directly to farmers experiencing losses from the prolonged dry spell, while the remaining 1 million pesos has been earmarked for broader mitigation measures against the anticipated intensification of weather conditions.

The assistance package reflects growing concerns about the impact of El Niño on the Mindanao region's agricultural sector, which remains vulnerable to extended drought periods that threaten crop yields and farmer livelihoods.

City officials have indicated that the relief effort represents an initial response, with agricultural authorities closely monitoring conditions and remaining prepared to scale up interventions should drought impacts intensify in the coming weeks.
