ILIGAN CITY — All classes in public and private schools throughout Iligan City will be suspended on October 8 to commemorate National Teachers' Day and National Teachers' Month, according to an order issued by Mayor Frederick Siao.
The suspension aligns with Republic Act No. 10743, which designates October 5 annually as National Teachers' Day to acknowledge the critical role educators play in nation-building and socio-economic development.
The city government's decision underscores the importance of recognizing teachers' contributions to society and provides an opportunity for schools and communities to celebrate their dedication to education. The measure applies uniformly across all educational institutions in the city, ensuring all students and teachers can participate in commemorative activities.
The suspension order comes as part of the month-long observance dedicated to the teaching profession, with various schools expected to organize activities highlighting teachers' achievements and their impact on students' development.
The one-day class suspension is the city's formal recognition of the law, which seeks to elevate the status of the teaching profession and promote public appreciation for educators' work in shaping the nation's future.
