An illegal firecracker factory operating in Paigarpur village, within the Sarnath police station jurisdiction in Varanasi, exploded on Tuesday, reducing a two-storey building to rubble. The blast, triggered by highly inflammable materials stored at the premises, caused significant structural damage to the property and surrounding areas. Emergency services rushed to the scene following the explosion, which occurred during daylight hours. Two occupants of the building sustained injuries in the incident and were subsequently admitted to a local medical facility for treatment. Their current condition remains under observation. Preliminary investigations suggest the explosion was caused by improper storage and handling of explosive materials used in firecracker production. Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched a formal inquiry into the incident. The operation of unlicensed pyrotechnic manufacturing units remains a persistent safety concern in residential areas across Uttar Pradesh.
