SAN ILDEFONSO, ILOCOS SUR — The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 (DSWD FO 1) distributed P5 million in livelihood capital to five hundred fishing families across Cabugao municipality on Monday, with each household receiving P10,000 in direct cash assistance.
The aid was channeled through the DSWD's Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), a government initiative designed to empower low-income communities by providing capital for income-generating activities. The beneficiaries hail from 13 barangays within the municipality, reflecting efforts to reach fishing communities across the broader Ilocos Sur region.
Official sources indicated the assistance forms part of broader anti-poverty measures targeting vulnerable sectors dependent on fishing and coastal livelihoods. The cash grants are intended to enable fisher families to invest in equipment, supplies, or alternative economic activities that supplement traditional fishing income.
The distribution in Cabugao underscores the DSWD's continued focus on providing direct livelihood support to marginalized communities across Region 1. Officials noted the program seeks to enhance household food security and reduce poverty among families reliant on natural resource-based occupations.
