ILOILO CITY — Residents and workers in Iloilo province face heightened health risks as dangerously high heat index readings of up to 43 degrees Celsius are forecast to persist through Friday, November 6, according to weather authorities.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) cautioned that the extreme temperatures create conditions conducive to heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for individuals engaged in outdoor activities or manual labor.
Health officials have advised the public to limit outdoor activities during peak hours, stay hydrated, and monitor vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions. Workers are urged to take frequent breaks in shaded areas and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
The dangerous heat index is expected to affect multiple areas across the province on both Thursday and Friday before conditions potentially improve. Residents and businesses are advised to heed Pagasa's warnings and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related medical emergencies.
