Iloilo City raises alert level as Typhoon Rosal approaches region

ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City government escalated its disaster preparedness measures Wednesday, placing disaster response operations on blue alert as Super Typhoon Rosal—internationally designated as Typhoon Champi—poses a threat to the Western Visayas region.

Mayor Raisa Treñas, who chairs the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, directed the activation of blue alert protocols to ensure rapid mobilization of emergency personnel and resources. The alert level indicates heightened readiness for potential impacts from the typhoon, which is expected to bring destructive winds and significant rainfall to the area.

Blue alert status requires government agencies and disaster management teams to preposition equipment, conduct facility inspections, and ensure evacuation centers are prepared to receive residents if needed. Local officials are coordinating with provincial authorities and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration for real-time weather updates.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow all advisories issued by local government units. The city government urged the public to secure loose objects, trim tree branches, and stock essential supplies in anticipation of the typhoon's passage.
