Iloilo schools consider transparent bags to boost campus security

ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Police Office and the Department of Education's Iloilo City Division are evaluating a proposal to implement transparent school bags across local educational institutions in a bid to strengthen campus safety measures.
The initiative was presented during a coordination meeting on Monday when Iloilo City Police Office Director Col. Wilbert Parilla introduced the transparent-bag concept to DepEd officials. The proposal aims to prevent prohibited items from being brought onto school premises, thereby enhancing the security environment for students and staff.
Under the proposed measure, students would be required to use clear or translucent bags, allowing visibility of contents and enabling security personnel to conduct more efficient screening at campus entry points. Proponents argue the approach provides a non-intrusive method of maintaining institutional safety while minimizing disruption to daily school operations.
DepEd officials are currently assessing the feasibility and implications of implementing the policy across Iloilo City schools. The agency will evaluate logistical considerations, potential costs, and feedback from school administrators before determining whether to adopt the measure citywide.
