The IMF delegation has wrapped up its latest round of consultations with Sri Lankan officials, marking progress in the ongoing engagement between the two parties. The talks focused on Sri Lanka's performance under its extended fund facility arrangement and the structural reforms required to advance the country's economic stabilization efforts.
Authorities confirmed that substantive discussions will resume in the near term as both sides work toward completion of the seventh review milestone. This review is a critical juncture in the program, requiring demonstration of continued fiscal discipline and implementation of agreed-upon reforms across multiple sectors.
The continuation of talks reflects mutual commitment to the program objectives, which aim to restore macroeconomic stability and place Sri Lanka on a sustainable growth trajectory. The country has been working to meet various performance targets set out in the IMF agreement, including revenue mobilization measures and public financial management improvements.
Completion of the seventh review would unlock the next tranche of IMF financing, supporting Sri Lanka's recovery efforts following the severe economic crisis that prompted the fund facility in 2023. Officials from both the IMF and Sri Lanka's Ministry of Finance indicated that outstanding issues would be resolved through continued technical engagement.
