The International Monetary Fund's latest economic projections indicate Sri Lanka is on track for a sustained recovery, with gross domestic product growth expected to expand at a faster pace over the coming years.
According to IMF forecasts, the island nation's economy is anticipated to grow by 4 percent in 2026, representing an acceleration from current trajectories. The following year is projected to see growth moderate to 3.7 percent, still representing solid expansion.
These projections reflect the IMF's assessment of Sri Lanka's economic stabilisation efforts following the country's external financing crisis in recent years. The growth forecasts suggest that policy reforms and structural adjustments undertaken as part of the IMF programme are expected to underpin medium-term economic performance.
The projections come as Sri Lanka continues implementing measures to restore macroeconomic stability and rebuild investor confidence following the severe economic downturn that prompted the country to seek IMF assistance.
