Immigration raid in Chow Kit nets 181 detainees including child

The Immigration Department conducted the raid in the densely populated Chow Kit neighbourhood, one of Kuala Lumpur's oldest commercial and residential districts. The operation resulted in the largest single-day detention sweep in the area in recent months, with authorities processing detainees for offences including overstaying, working without valid permits, and document irregularities.

The presence of a child among the detainees has drawn attention to immigration enforcement practices and the vulnerability of minors caught in enforcement operations. Child welfare officials were engaged to ensure appropriate handling of the minor's case during processing.

The detainees have been transferred to immigration detention facilities pending investigation and deportation procedures. Immigration Department officials stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to maintain border security and combat illegal employment practices that undercut Malaysia's labour market regulations.

Chow Kit has long been identified as an area with significant migrant populations, making it a focus area for regular immigration enforcement activities. Authorities have indicated that similar operations will continue across high-risk neighbourhoods in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas.
