Imprisoned monk Gnanasara to work in prison printing section

Prison officials announced yesterday that Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera, General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, will be placed in the printing section of the correctional facility while completing his remaining sentence. The monk was produced before the Colombo High Court yesterday in connection with his ongoing case.
The assignment to the printing work party marks the continuation of Gnanasara Thera's incarceration following court orders for him to serve out the remainder of his sentence. Prison authorities did not provide additional details regarding the duration of his remaining term or other conditions of his assignment.
The development comes as the high-profile Buddhist monk continues legal proceedings related to his conviction. Officials indicated that the printing section placement would constitute his work assignment during the custodial period.
