Preparations are complete for the transfer of Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, according to Pakistani authorities. The move follows a directive from the country's Supreme Court, which has prompted intensive security arrangements along the transfer route.
Following the court's order, security personnel will be stationed at multiple checkpoints along the route from the jail to the hospital. The hospital's medical team has been put on alert to receive the former premier, who has faced multiple legal cases since his ouster from office in 2022.
To maintain custody protocols, authorities have announced that a designated section of Shifa International Hospital will be formally declared a sub-jail. This arrangement will allow medical staff to treat Khan while maintaining security and legal custody requirements under Pakistani law.
The hospital transfer comes amid Khan's ongoing detention related to various charges, which he has consistently denied. His legal team has previously sought medical treatment for him during his incarceration, citing health concerns.
