Income Tax Inspector Arrested for Accepting 15 Lakh Rupee Bribe in Mumbai

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Income Tax Inspector Subhash Kumar Yadav in Mumbai on Wednesday while he was accepting a bribe of 15 lakh rupees, officials said. The arrest was made at the point of transaction, with the officer caught red-handed during the alleged unlawful exchange.

According to the CBI, Inspector Yadav had initially demanded 20 lakh rupees from a complainant to settle a matter related to benami property holdings. The inspector allegedly agreed to close the case in exchange for the payment, leading to the CBI's intervention and sting operation.

During searches conducted following the arrest, investigators recovered 11 lakh rupees in cash from the inspector's possession along with incriminating documents. The recovered amount and documents are expected to form part of the evidence in the case.

The arrest adds to growing concerns over corruption within tax administration departments. The CBI has registered a case against the inspector under relevant provisions of anti-corruption laws. Further investigations are underway to determine if other officials were involved in the alleged scheme.
