India aims to lead global automotive sector, says transport minister

India's automotive sector is poised to become a global leader, according to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, who outlined the government's vision for the industry at a major awards ceremony. Speaking at the HT Auto Awards, Gadkari emphasised the strategic importance of the automotive sector to India's economic development and competitiveness on the world stage.

The minister pointed to the sector's significant economic footprint, noting that India's automotive industry contributes over ₹22.75 lakh crore to the national economy. This substantial contribution underscores the sector's role as a key driver of economic growth and employment across the country.
