India and Poland chart deeper defence ties, eye trade doubling

India and Poland have agreed to deepen defence ties and accelerate trade growth under a renewed partnership framework. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Premier Donald Tusk outlined plans to strengthen defence sector cooperation and industrial linkages, recognizing shared strategic interests in the region.

The two countries are targeting an ambitious doubling of bilateral trade by the end of the decade, from the current $6.3 billion baseline. Officials indicated that leveraging the India-EU trade agreement will be instrumental in achieving this goal, opening new avenues for commercial engagement across sectors.

Defence industrial cooperation emerged as a key pillar of the enhanced partnership, with both nations identifying opportunities for technology transfer, joint production initiatives, and defence sector collaboration. The framework reflects Warsaw's growing focus on Asia and New Delhi's efforts to strengthen ties with Central and Eastern European nations.

The agreement underscores both countries' commitment to deepening institutional engagement through regular high-level dialogue and expanded people-to-people exchanges. Officials noted that the expanded partnership would benefit mutual prosperity while contributing to regional stability and security.
