The Union government has given the green light to 12 electronics manufacturing proposals with a combined value exceeding ₹7,500 crore, according to IT Secretary S Krishnan. The approvals represent the latest batch of projects backed under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), which forms a cornerstone of India's strategy to develop an integrated domestic electronics ecosystem.
The fresh round of clearances extends beyond component assembly to encompass materials and capital goods manufacturing, broadening the scheme's scope across the entire electronics value chain. By supporting upstream production of raw materials and manufacturing equipment alongside component fabrication, the government aims to create a comprehensive domestic supply base.
The move underscores New Delhi's determination to reduce India's reliance on imported electronics components and build technological self-sufficiency. The ECMS, launched as part of the broader Production-Linked Incentive scheme, has emerged as a key vehicle for attracting investment into semiconductor and electronics component manufacturing.
Concurrently, the government on Friday unveiled the Semicon 2.0 web application portal as part of its flagship Semicon India Programme. The digital platform is designed to streamline the application and approval process for semiconductor manufacturing projects, further facilitating investment in the high-value chip production sector.
