India awards incentives for 862,000 tonnes of green hydrogen capacity
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that incentives have been allocated for substantial green hydrogen production and electrolyser manufacturing capacity under India's national green hydrogen mission. The move is expected to bolster domestic energy security and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.

India has awarded incentives for 8.62 lakh tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production capacity and 3,000 MW per annum of domestic electrolyser manufacturing capacity, according to Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy.
Speaking at the Horizons Clean Energy Expansion India 2026 conference organised by S&P Global Energy, Joshi highlighted that green hydrogen production capacities of 30 kilotonnes per annum have also been allocated to refineries. These incentives are being extended under the national green hydrogen mission, which carries an estimated outlay of approximately Rs 19,744 crore.
The allocations form part of the SIGHT program, designed to encourage both green hydrogen production and the development of India's electrolyser manufacturing sector. Joshi emphasized that establishing a robust domestic green hydrogen market will strengthen the nation's energy independence and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.
The initiative represents a significant step toward India's broader energy transition goals, positioning the country as a potential hub for clean hydrogen technology and production in the South Asian region.
