India-backed startups launch sovereign AI models for offline use

Soket AI and ZenteiQ have released sovereign AI models that can function in airgapped environments, addressing India's push for self-reliant artificial intelligence infrastructure. The models are designed to operate without internet connectivity, enabling their deployment in secure or isolated computing systems.

Backed by the India AI Mission, the startups have developed these systems to support critical applications across coding, mathematics, science and research domains. The offline capability addresses security and data sovereignty concerns for organisations handling sensitive information or operating in restricted network environments.

The release reflects India's broader strategy to develop homegrown AI capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign technology platforms. By creating models that can run independently of cloud infrastructure, the startups aim to provide Indian enterprises and research institutions with secure alternatives for deploying advanced AI tools.

The initiative aligns with government priorities to foster domestic AI innovation and build technological self-sufficiency in the sector. As India continues investing in its AI ecosystem, such sovereign models are expected to play a role in various institutional and industrial applications across the country.
