The INDIA bloc has rescheduled its planned 'public impeachment' of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to Saturday following heavy rainfall in the national capital, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi announced on Friday.
Addressing a joint press conference outside Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence, Gandhi said the decision to postpone was taken to spare senior participants from uncomfortable weather conditions. "By consensus we have decided to postpone today's programme to tomorrow because of rain. We felt that it would be uncomfortable for seniors to sit in the rain, and we would do the exact same programme tomorrow," Gandhi said.
The opposition leader reiterated that the scheduled demonstrations represent a unified political stance rather than isolated protests. "This is not multiple protests but one protest, with the opposition standing together to defend the Constitution," Gandhi stated, signalling the collective nature of the bloc's action against the poll body chief.
The INDIA coalition plans to follow Saturday's event with a 'Chalo Dilli' march to Ramlila Grounds on November 1, Gandhi said, extending an open invitation to participants from both political and non-political backgrounds. The successive demonstrations underscore the opposition's sustained pressure on the election commission leadership.
