The INDIA bloc opposition alliance has intensified its campaign demanding presidential intervention in its ongoing confrontation with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating that its request for a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu remains unanswered.
The coalition's push comes amid sustained protests spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi and other senior opposition figures over the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Opposition parties have raised concerns about alleged irregularities in voter rolls and challenged the election commission's management of the revision process.
According to statements from the alliance, party leaders have faced multiple detentions and First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against them during their protest activities. Despite these obstacles, opposition sources indicated the INDIA bloc plans to continue its campaign and maintain pressure for the President's intervention in the matter.
The dispute reflects growing tensions between the opposition and the Election Commission over electoral processes ahead of upcoming polls. The alliance has framed the voter roll revision exercise as problematic, contending it could disenfranchise eligible voters and demanding higher-level government involvement in resolving the controversy.
