INDIA bloc's Supreme Court march blocked as Delhi tightens security

NEW DELHI — India's Chief Justice Sarvakant has rejected a plea from INDIA bloc opposition leaders seeking permission to march to the Supreme Court on Monday, dealing a significant blow to the coalition's planned protest.

The opposition alliance had sought to organize the demonstration at the apex court, but the rejection of their application means the planned march will not proceed as scheduled. Meanwhile, the political pressure continues to mount as other groups press authorities for permission to hold demonstrations elsewhere in the capital.

In response to anticipated unrest, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has implemented heightened security measures, closing gates at six stations across the network. The transit authority's precautionary moves underscore concerns about potential disruptions to public order in the capital.

The setback for the INDIA bloc comes as tensions simmer between opposition parties and the government. Other groups, including representatives cited in reports, have separately approached police seeking permission for protests at Jantar Mantar, a traditional venue for demonstrations in central Delhi. If permission is not granted promptly, these groups have indicated they may proceed with demonstrations regardless.
