The INDIA opposition bloc announced plans for a public impeachment proceeding targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as part of its campaign against alleged electoral malpractices. The symbolic action represents an escalation in the coalition's challenge to the election management body's functioning.
Following the impeachment proceeding, the alliance plans to organize a major demonstration in the national capital, dubbed a 'Dilli Chalo March,' focusing on allegations of vote irregularities and electoral integrity concerns. The march will terminate at Ramleela Maidan in central Delhi.
According to INDIA bloc leaders, the November 1st rally is expected to draw at least one million participants concerned about the conduct of elections in the country. The mobilization reflects growing opposition frustration with poll administration under the current Election Commission leadership.
The announcement marks the latest in a series of actions by the opposition coalition challenging the electoral process. The INDIA bloc has previously raised concerns about the independence and functioning of the Election Commission during recent electoral cycles.
