India-born scientist assumes leadership of UT Austin nursing school

Radhakrishnan assumed the position on September 1, following her service as interim dean since March. She becomes the fifth dean in the school's history and brings over a decade of faculty experience at the institution, having joined UT Austin in 2012.

The appointment comes at a critical juncture for nursing education and healthcare delivery. Radhakrishnan, who holds the Laura Lee Blanton Chair in Nursing, emphasized the transformative pace of change across higher education, healthcare, and technology sectors. "We are entering a defining era for nursing," she said, noting the need to reimagine approaches to education, research, care delivery, and leadership.

University leadership has backed the appointment strongly. William Inboden, executive vice president and provost at UT Austin, described the School of Nursing as indispensable to the university's expanding academic health enterprise. "Dr Radhakrishnan is the right leader for this important moment of growth," Inboden said, highlighting her vision for building on the school's existing strengths.

The nursing school is central to UT Austin's broader strategy to strengthen its academic health sector, with Radhakrishnan's appointment expected to guide the institution through a period of significant expansion and innovation in nursing education and research.
