India braces for below-normal September rainfall as El Niño intensifies

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged concerns over below-normal precipitation expected in September as El Niño patterns are forecast to intensify during the latter phase of the southwest monsoon season. The strengthening of El Niño conditions typically suppresses monsoon rainfall over the Indian subcontinent, potentially exacerbating moisture deficits across agricultural regions.
