India calls for global vigilance on weapons tech transfers to terror groups

India has expressed deep concern over the risk of weapons of mass destruction reaching terrorist and non-state actors, calling for enhanced global vigilance on technology transfers. Lok Sabha MP Alok Kumar Suman made the statement on Monday while delivering India's position at the UN General Assembly First Committee, which addresses disarmament and international security matters.

"Terrorism remains a major challenge to international security," Suman said. "India is deeply concerned about the risk of weapons of mass destruction falling into the hands of terrorists and non-state actors." He called on all UN member states to remain alert regarding transfers of dual-use and sensitive technologies, particularly to countries with documented records of proliferation or links to terrorism.

India's statement appeared directed at Pakistan and the proliferation networks associated with nuclear scientist A Q Khan, who operated an international smuggling ring that supplied nuclear technology and materials to multiple countries. The comments reflect New Delhi's longstanding concerns about weapons proliferation in South Asia and the nexus between state actors and non-state militant groups in the region.

The intervention underscores India's commitment to strengthening global non-proliferation frameworks and international security mechanisms ahead of ongoing geopolitical tensions in South and Southeast Asia.
