India calls for uniform global stance against terrorism at SCO meet

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reiterated India's position on the need for a unified global approach to combating terrorism, emphasizing that double standards in addressing the threat undermine regional stability and development.

Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Pakistan, Singh characterised terrorism as "one of the gravest threats to development," noting its multifaceted impact beyond loss of life. The minister highlighted how terrorist activities disrupt investment flows and commercial activities, thereby hampering economic growth and prosperity across the region.

The statement, made in the presence of Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, reflects India's longstanding stance on the need for consistent international action against terror groups without selective application of criteria. India has repeatedly emphasised that countries must adopt uniform standards when dealing with terrorism-related issues on the global stage.

The remarks come amid ongoing regional security challenges and India's efforts to push for counterterrorism coordination within multilateral forums. Singh's intervention at the SCO platform underscores New Delhi's commitment to building consensus among member states on addressing transnational threats that destabilise the region and impede socio-economic progress.
