India can achieve $1 trillion export goal by FY27: Goyal

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday asserted that India remains well-positioned to achieve its ambitious $1 trillion export target by fiscal year 2026-27, brushing aside concerns over sluggish global trade conditions.

Goyal attributed the government's optimism to the strength of India's domestic business ecosystem, particularly the thriving micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector. The minister also highlighted the role of newly negotiated free trade agreements (FTAs) in bolstering export competitiveness across key sectors.

The $1 trillion export goal represents a significant milestone for India's external commerce strategy, nearly doubling current export levels. While global trade growth has remained subdued in recent years due to geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties, Indian exporters have demonstrated resilience through product diversification and market expansion.

The minister's remarks signal the government's commitment to sustaining export momentum through policy support and structural reforms. India's export trajectory will be closely watched as a barometer of the broader economy's health and its capacity to maintain double-digit growth amid international challenges.
