India celebrates deportation of major drug trafficker from Turkey

Navpreet Singh, a prominent figure in international drug trafficking networks, has been deported from Turkey to face justice in India, according to Home Minister Amit Shah. The deportation marks a significant success in India's ongoing crackdown on transnational narcotics operations that have fuelled drug abuse across the country.

Shah revealed that Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship under an assumed identity, Navab Virk, while continuing to orchestrate large-scale smuggling operations. From his base in Turkey, the trafficker coordinated the movement of substantial quantities of heroin and methamphetamine sourced from Afghanistan into Indian markets, exploiting regional transit routes to distribute contraband.

The case underscores the persistent challenge posed by international drug trafficking rings that leverage false documentation and multi-country networks to evade law enforcement. Singh's deportation follows increased cooperation between Indian authorities and Turkish counterparts in targeting high-value trafficking suspects.

The Home Minister's announcement reflects India's broader efforts to dismantle drug smuggling infrastructure and combat the opioid crisis affecting millions of citizens. Authorities are expected to pursue prosecution against Singh under stringent narcotics legislation upon his return to India.
