Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared the current Diwali season as a watershed moment for national security, marking the first time that all districts across India are free from Naxalite militant activity. The assertion underscores a significant shift in the country's long struggle against left-wing extremism that has plagued certain regions for decades.
Addressing the nation, Modi emphasised his personal regard for the security personnel who have played a crucial role in bringing about this transformation. The Prime Minister's remarks highlighted the dedication and sacrifice of armed forces and law enforcement agencies deployed across traditionally affected areas.
The Bastar region in Chhattisgarh, historically a Naxal stronghold, has witnessed particularly visible development and stabilisation in recent years. Modi pointed to the dramatic turnaround in the area as evidence of how sustained security operations coupled with developmental initiatives can reclaim territory from militant control.
The declaration reflects a comprehensive strategy combining military operations, intelligence gathering, and civilian outreach programmes. Security analysts note that while sporadic incidents may still occur, the organised control previously exercised by Naxalite groups over entire districts has been substantially dismantled across the country.
