India, China could be key to resolving West Asia crisis: Clinton

India and China possess significant leverage in resolving the escalating West Asia crisis due to their substantial energy imports from Iran, according to Hillary Clinton. Speaking to C-SPAN on Monday, the former US Secretary of State argued that both nations could emerge as key mediators if diplomatic channels are pursued rather than military posturing.

"The misconceptions at a strategic level have led us to where we are," Clinton said, underscoring the role of miscalculation in the deepening regional tensions.

The conflict has intensified since late February, when joint US-Israeli military operations against Iran prompted retaliatory strikes and disrupted shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. An interim peace agreement signed between Washington and Tehran in June collapsed last month following renewed military escalations by both sides.

Clinton highlighted that China and Iran's largest oil and gas purchasers globally, positioning them as natural interlocutors in peace negotiations. "If you want to figure out how Trump could get out of this, I think the key to it is probably China and India," she stated.

Meanwhile, Pakistan, Oman, and Qatar have already begun mediation efforts to bridge the widening gap between the US and Iran, offering alternative diplomatic pathways to end the conflict.
