The Ministry of External Affairs said Monday that India and China maintain active communication channels to address potential flashpoints along their disputed border. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that both nations have put in place institutional mechanisms designed to prevent escalation and manage differences peacefully.
Jaiswal's comments were in response to recent statements by Indo-Tibetan Border Police Director General regarding the security situation in Arunachal Pradesh. The remarks underscored New Delhi's commitment to utilizing established protocols and dialogue frameworks to handle border-related concerns.
India and China have historically relied on military-to-military channels and diplomatic engagement to prevent localized incidents from spiraling into broader confrontations. These mechanisms include regular meetings between senior officials and border management protocols developed over several years of engagement.
The LAC, which separates Indian and Chinese-administered territories across Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh, has remained a source of contention between the two nations. Recent years have witnessed increased military deployments and periodic face-offs along various sections of the frontier, prompting both countries to emphasize the importance of dialogue and conflict prevention frameworks.
The MEA's assertion that communication channels remain functional reflects New Delhi's position that despite operational challenges on the ground, diplomatic engagement between the two Asian powers continues at multiple levels to maintain stability in the region.
