India claims two medals in track and field at Asian Games 2026

Sojan mounted a strong challenge throughout the women's long jump final before settling for the silver medal with a best effort of 6.53 metres. China's Huang Yingying edged out the Indian jumper to claim gold, producing a decisive 6.55-metre jump late in the competition. Sojan's fifth attempt proved her best but fell just short of the Chinese athlete's winning mark.

In the women's 200 metres final, Bhadra crossed the line in third place with a time of 23.20 seconds, narrowly fending off Japan's Ido Abigeirufuka, who clocked 23.21 seconds. Singapore's Shanti Pereira claimed the gold medal with a season-best performance of 22.78 seconds.

The day brought disappointment for fellow Indian jumper Shaili Singh, who missed out on a podium finish in the long jump. Singh recorded a best jump of 6.42 metres, finishing fourth as China's Mengyi Tan's 6.46-metre effort secured the bronze medal. The result marked a missed opportunity for India to claim multiple medals in the field event.
