India remains steadfast in its commitment to support Sri Lanka's developmental trajectory and economic progress, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Tuesday. Jaishankar made the statement after meeting with Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva, underscoring New Delhi's continuous engagement with key political figures in Colombo.
During the discussion, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between the two South Asian neighbors. "We had a good discussion on strengthening our deep bonds of friendship," the minister said, reflecting India's emphasis on deepening people-to-people and institutional connections with Sri Lanka.
The bilateral engagement reflects India's longstanding policy of maintaining robust relations with its island neighbor, crucial for regional stability and economic cooperation. New Delhi has consistently supported Sri Lanka through various development initiatives and diplomatic channels, particularly during periods of economic and political transition.
Jaishankar's meeting with Silva demonstrates India's approach of maintaining dialogue across Sri Lanka's political spectrum, ensuring that bilateral partnerships remain resilient regardless of domestic political developments. The discussions align with India's broader regional strategy of fostering stability and prosperity in South and Southeast Asia.
