The Government of India handed over a shipment of essential anti-tuberculosis medicines to the Government of Sri Lanka during a ceremony at the Ministry of Health in Colombo on October 7. Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha presented the consignment to Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health and Mass Media.
The medication delivery underscores India's commitment to supporting Sri Lanka's public health initiatives, particularly in combating tuberculosis, which remains a significant public health challenge across South Asia. The consignment represents a tangible expression of the bilateral health cooperation framework between the two nations.
Tuberculosis continues to affect thousands of people across Sri Lanka annually. Access to quality, affordable anti-TB medicines is critical to the government's efforts to achieve tuberculosis elimination targets and improve treatment outcomes for patients across the country.
The donation reflects the longstanding healthcare partnership between India and Sri Lanka, which has seen New Delhi provide technical assistance and essential medicines to support the island nation's disease control programmes over several years.
